AMERY, Wis. (WSAU) — Four people are dead after a plane crash in northwestern Wisconsin. Polk County Sheriff Peter Johnson says they were notified at 5:24 p.m. Monday from Witnesses that say the single engine craft crashed in the Town of Alden near 30th Avenue and 150th Street. That’s about four miles southwest of the Amery Airport.
The airplane and the field were burning when emergency crews arrived. Once the fire was out, crews found the remains of four people inside the Beechcraft plane. The four occupants were taken to Anoka, Minnesota to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies and positive identification.
Amery and the Dresser-Osceola-Garfield Fire Departments and the Amery ambulance assisted deputies at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been called in to investigate the crash. Sheriff Johnson doesn’t expect to release any more information until after those two teams have been to the site.
Names and hometowns have not been released.
