EPHRAIM, Wis. (Wheeler News Service) — The body found in an open area in Door County has been positively identified as that of Appleton doctor Jeffrey Whiteside.
Authorities positively identified Whiteside’s body Thursday afternoon, and say a 22-caliber handgun was found near the body. They have not identified the owner of the gun.
Doctor Whiteside had been missing since June 29th after an argument with his wife along a waterfront in Ephraim. Door County Chief Deputy Sheriff Patrick McCarty says if not for the K9 search and rescue dogs, it would have been very hard to find Whiteside unless you walked within a foot or two of his body.
Officials have not said how Whiteside died, but have said the public is not in danger.
The Whiteside family issued a statement thanking everyone who participated in the multi-day search.
