GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County’s largest employer is being purchased by Aetna.
The firm will spend $37 million to buy Humana, making Aetna a major player in the fast-growing Medicare Advantage business. Shareholders and federal regulators must still approve the deal, which would nearly triple Aetna’s Medicare Advantage business.
According to the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, Humana employs over 3,100 people as of July 2014.
Aetna officials said the combined company will provide coverage for about 33 million members.
