MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin GOP Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald expects to have his chamber vote next week on the funding package for a new Milwaukee Bucks’ arena.
He made the comment Wednesday, when legislative leaders confirmed that the arena project was taken out of the next two-year state budget — along with a cutback in the prevailing wage for public works projects.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said leaders of both parties want to meet Thursday with Governor Scott Walker to talk about generating support for the arena project among rank and file lawmakers.
The package includes $250 million from past and present Bucks’ owners. The rest would come from things like bonding, extensions of current Milwaukee travel-related taxes, tax incremental financing, and more.
Walker has contended that the Bucks’ package is cheaper for taxpayers than the costs of dealing with the BMO Harris Bradley Center should the team leave.
