KENOSHA, Wis (WSAU-Wheeler News) Eleven people were injured — none seriously — after a bus driver collapsed from an apparent medical condition while driving on a freeway in Kenosha County. Sheriff’s deputies said the commercial coach was returning to the Chicago area from a function in Milwaukee, when the driver passed out late Saturday night on Interstate-94. Officials said the bus was going about 60 miles-an-hour when it veered into a concrete wall on the right shoulder. The bus hit the wall two-or-three times before it came to rest.
Authorities said a passenger took the wheel, after noticing that the 68-year-old driver was not in his seat. He was admitted to a hospital in Kenosha. Officials said he cooperated with investigators, and was not ticketed.
The bus had 34 passengers, 23 of whom escaped injury. The rest were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
