MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is being warned by social conservatives in Iowa about approving a new casino proposed for construction in Kenosha.
The warning is coming from Iowa.
Walker has to decide by February 19th whether to clear the way for the $800 million project backed by the Menominee Tribe and Hard Rock International.
Gambling opponents don’t want the Republican state leader to forget Iowa’s first in the nation caucuses to select presidential nominees. Iowa is especially important for Walker.
600 Republicans in that state signed a petition against gambling expansion. A second letter came from the chief executive officer of The Family Leader, Bob Vander Platts, who carries a lot of weight in Iowa.
Walker has said he won’t let his potential campaign for president influence his casino decision.
