WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) – A former Wausau area police officer has pleaded not guilty to charges involving the sexual assault of an intoxicated woman.
22-year-old Corey Yolitz of Mosinee was ordered to stand trial Thursday at a preliminary hearing in Marathon County Circuit Court. He entered not guilty pleas to burglary and sexual assault of an intoxicated victim and asked for a new judge to replace Jill Falstad.
Authorities said Yolitz was off-duty from his job as a Rothschild police officer when he offered a 21-year-old woman a ride home from a bar last fall.
Everest Metro investigators testified Thursday that the woman later woke up and assumed her boyfriend was having sex with her — but it was Yolitz instead.
When the suspect ran off, investigators said he triggered motion-sensing lights which allowed the victim to identify the former officer.
Yolitz resigned from the Rothschild police force soon after the allegations came to light. He had served for less than four months.
