MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Madison lawyer Dean Strang says hundreds of people have contacted him since Netflix started running its ten-part documentary about convicted killer Steven Avery.
Strang helped represent the Manitowoc County man when he was found guilty in the shooting, burning, and raping of Teresa Halbach a decade ago.
In the taping of an interview show for WKOW-TV, Strang says he lost the case but he was never convinced of Avery’s guilt.
Producers Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi said they made the series “Making a Murderer” because they were interested in Avery’s 2003 release from prison for a sexual assault he never committed — followed by his murder arrest two-and-a-half years later.
Observers say Avery was the first to be freed by DNA evidence for one crime, only to have DNA return him to prison for another crime.
