KEWAUNEE, WI (WTAQ) – A couple convicted of beating and intimidating their children, some of whom were adopted from Africa, will spend time behind bars.
Christine and Steven Oswald of Kewaunee County were accused of child abuse, after reports surfaced that they would end outdoor chore sessions with slapping their children, locking them in their rooms and forcing them to eat soap.
The kids ranged in age from 4 to 18.
Christine Oswald will spend six months in jail and be put on probation for 3 years after being convicted of child abuse and child neglect.
Steven Oswald will spend 3 months in jail for a battery conviction, but entered into a deferred prosecution agreement on a felony child abuse count. That means it will be dropped in 3 years if he follows the terms of his three-year probation.
Neither Oswald will be allowed to have contact with the children unless approved by the probation agent.
