GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Parts of Wisconsin have had some welcome rain the past few days, but it’s not enough to keep drought conditions from coming back.
The U.S. Drought Monitor says about a quarter of the state’s land area was abnormally dry last week, along a path from the southwest corner of Wisconsin to Door County in the northeast.
We’ll get an updated report on Thursday.
Many farmers have had to irrigate over the past month or so. National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Collar blames dry weather since the start of July, with highs almost constantly in the 80s with a few 90s.
He expects the trend to continue — and another El Nino could bring us a second straight warmer and drier winter.
For now, we’ll have to settle for the scattered rain that went through central and northern Wisconsin last night. The chance of rain continues through Monday.
