(WNFL) – Nick Murgic turned back a late charge from Casey Johnson to win the Dixieland 250 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Tuesday evening.
Murgic took advantage of a broken water pump belt on the car of Seymour’s Ty Majeski to grab the lead with 45 laps remaining. Majeski had been running a dominating race until that point but the part failure sent him to the pits.
Johnson made a valiant effort to squeeze inside Murgic heading into turn three with three laps remaining but Murgic was able to hold him off.
Johnson finished second with Paul Shafer, Jr. finishing third; Austin Nason, fourth and Ross Kenseth, fifth.
Johnny Sauter who was taken out of the race when involved in an accident less than 10 laps into the race set a new WIR qualifying record, turning a lap in 19.026 seconds.
