MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The head of the state Assembly’s education committee wants to make it clear that students who don’t want to take the Badger Exam don’t have to.
Fond du Lac Republican Jeremy Thiesfeldt asked State Superintendent Tony Evers Monday to remind schools about the opt-out policy for the achievement test.
Thiesfeldt says there’s confusion over the law that dictates when students can opt-out of statewide achievement exams.
For the Badger Exam, he says the opt-out provision must be given to 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who request it.
State officials say it’s up to the schools to decide whether to let others opt-opt out, because the law does not mention other grades being tested.
