Milwaukee Brewers
During a week-long homestand, Brewers backup third baseman Mike Brosseau never stepped to the plate until he entered Wednesday afternoon’s game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th. He made the one at bat count delivering a grand slam home run to cap Milwaukee’s 6-0 victory over the New York Mets to snap a three game slide and avoid getting swept by the National League’s East Division leaders. It was the third pinch homer of the year for Brosseau and it capped a five run 7th that put the game away. Willy Adames continued his hot stretch with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to break a scoreless tie. It was his 31st long ball of the season. Adrian Houser worked four and two thirds innings and five relievers helped finish off the combined four hit shutout, Milwaukee’s ninth of the year. The Brewers improve to 79-70 on the year but didn’t get any help in the playoff chase. Philadelphia snapped a five game slide by beating Toronto 4-3 in 10 innings and San Diego shutout the Cardinals 1-0 Wednesday night. Milwaukee remains two and a half games behind the Phillies for the final wild card spot and they are four games behind the Padres. The Brewers embark on their final road series of the year in Cincinnati. Brandon Woodruff will face Hunter Greene in the series opener at the Great American Ballpark Thursday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:05 PM with a 5:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
