APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A career expo hoped to inspire Fox Valley students.
The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual student career expo, Future Fox Cities, at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center Wednesday.
It gives 8th through 12th grade students the opportunity to interact with a variety of businesses in the Fox Valley and get a feel for local careers.
President and CEO of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, Becky Bartoszek, tells FOX 11 it’s important to get students to think about careers at an earlier age.
“As more and more of the baby boomers are retiring, there are less and less people to fill those jobs so we’re doing our best to keep our best and brightest here in our community and make sure that they know they don’t have to leave the Fox Cities to find a really great opportunity for a great career.”
New this year; students had some homework to do before the expo. Each student had to identify areas of interest to them, correlating codes. Each employer at the expo has a list of codes that identifies if the student and their business are a good match.
About 2,000 students from 24 schools attended the expo Wednesday.
Future Fox Cities will continue Thursday when another 1,000 area high school students come through the doors at the expo.
Students can learn about available internships and get more information on company tours and job shadowing, classroom visits and summer employment opportunities.
