KESHENA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Menominee Indian Tribe has instituted a curfew for its members to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
No one can be out between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on tribal lands.
It is making certain exceptions for essential personnel, such as law enforcement and health care workers.
A tribal official says this is being done because people go out and travel during the night.
“We’re very rural. And you’d be surprised how mobile our members are. And especially, up here, when everything is closed, what’s to stop people from wanting to take a ride in the woods, or to do different things, just riding around in the community?” said Menominee Indian Tribe Chairwoman, Joan Delabreau.
The curfew is in effect for 60 days.
Violators can expect up to a $500 fine or up to six months in jail.
