GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A State budget public hearing is coming to Green Bay next month.
The four public hearings by the Legislature’s budget-writing Joint Finance Committee will give residents of Northeast Wisconsin a chance to have their say in the budget.
One hearing is set for April 24 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
That event is set to take place in the Phoenix Room in the University Union.
Residents can make a written comment by emailing BudgetComments@legis.wisconsin.gov.
April 5 at the Pontiac Convention Center in Janesville, April 10 at the Oak Creek Community Center and April 15 at UW-River Falls will be the other three hearings.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers kicked-off the budget process in February when he released his proposal for the next two-year budget.
The Joint Finance Committee will come up with its own proposal after working out the details and eventually introduce it in the Legislature.
Before being signed into law by Governor Evers, identical versions of the budget must pass both houses of the Legislature.
July 1 is the start of the budget year, however, there is no government shutdown if an agreement is not reached by then.
Until the new budget is enacted current spending levels will continue.
