GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s Valentine’s Day and that means the chocolate and floral industries will be busy.
At Seroogy’s Chocolates in Green Bay, Retail Manager Jeff Olson says they are available to help those who still need to pick up something sweet for that the special someone, and says preplanning for the holiday does not always happen.
“The last-minute shoppers are primarily men on the day of, and we will have product for them.”
For Seroogy’s Valentine’s Day is the third most popular day behind the Christmas season and Easter.
For the floral industry, Valentine’s Day is the biggest day alongside Mother’s Day.
Peggy Schroeder, Owner of Schroeder’s Flowers in Green Bay says while women do buy flowers, men make up many of her customers on Valentine’s Day.
“I think some may forget or realize that need to pick up flowers before they come home.”
At both stores, products are available for both men and women looking to surprise that someone special.
Schroeder says they still have plenty of flowers to choose from, but if you still need to get flowers, it’s better to get them earlier than later.
“This way the person has their flowers all day on Valentine’s Day and they are not disappointed getting it late in the day.”
When it comes to chocolate, Olson says there is never a bad time to stop in and they have been preparing for a while.
“Three for four weeks in advance, we start packing gift boxes for Valentine’s Day.”
He says chocolate hearts and assorted boxes are the most common.
When it comes to flowers, Schroeder says a multi-arrangement is becoming just as popular as a dozen roses.
As far as making your flowers last, Schroder says it is important to keep them watered and in a cool place and remember to trim the bottom of the stem from time to time to help them get water.
