GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – More than a decade in the making, the restoration of Green Bay’s historic Hotel Northland will officially be complete Thursday.
After a 40-year break, Hotel Northland will once again welcome guests.
For more than 30 years following the hotel’s closure in 1979, the building operated as Port Plaza Towers, a home for seniors and disabled people.
After years of delays fueled by money issues, a battle over ownership, and political turmoil, the Northland is finally ready.
John Williams, the hotel’s general manager, tells FOX 11 they almost opened for the holidays.
“We waited a little bit longer for some furniture items than we thought we would, but you know what? They’re here, in place, and we’re ready to go.”
The Northland is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
While today is the opening, Williams says a grand opening is expected to be scheduled for spring.
