MENASHA (WTAQ- WLUK) -Letters and packages are missing in Menasha and Neenah.
Residents told FOX 11 a number of pieces of mail sent through the US Post Office are nowhere to be seen.
“It’s the entire community! It’s not just hit or miss, it’s the entire community. It’s crazy!” said Menasha resident Crystal Campbell.
If you’re waiting for something mailed by someone in Neenah or Menasha, you may be waiting a little longer.
Several residents said what they mailed out last Tuesday, never reached its final destination.
“They admitted that any mail that was mailed out on the fourth, they aren’t able to locate,” Neenah resident Lori Hammett said. “They believe it’s somewhere in Milwaukee, but they don’t know where.”
Lori Hammett is just one of many whose mail appears to be lost.
For her and her husband, who owns a law practice, it’s crucial the mail they send is received on time.
“He pays quarterly taxes and has sent out a check to the state, and a check to the IRS, and we noticed that they haven’t been cashed!” Hammett said.
They rely on USPS so heavily, Lori tracks the mail online.
Even that isn’t helping now. The tracking status says ‘unavailable’.
The issue of the missing mail is certainly causing frustration, but for some, it’s also now costing them.
“I was sending a ‘Thank You’ card to somebody who was very generous with my family and giving them some cash back to say thank you, and they’ve never received it,” Campbell said.
FOX 11 asked the USPS how much mail and how many people might be affected but hasn’t received a specific number.
In a statement by the USPS Corporate Communication Center in Ill., handling this region, they said they are aware of the issue and are looking into it.
Multiple residents also said they’re getting late fees and penalties for checks mailed out for bills that still haven’t been received.
No word from the post office on how that will be handled, or when the missing mail will finally get where it needs to go.
