GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Tonight the Packers will look to take down the 49ers on the field, but throughout October they’ve been looking to tackle a much bigger foe off-the-field.
Packers vs. Cancer has been an ongoing initiative partnered with Bellin Health.
Sara Webb, Manager of Partnership Services with the Packers, describes the team’s recent efforts.
“We did a hospital visit at the Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee and then we also did an appearance at the Bellin Clinic in Marinette,” says Webb.
The organization has been attempting to raise funds throughout the month for a special cause.
“All of the money that we’re gathering for goes back to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation,” she explains.
The culmination of the initiative will take place tonight where fans will have plenty of opportunities to show their support and chip-in towards the effort.
“If they go to the pro shop they can purchase a Vince Lombardi cap,” she says. “Five dollars of that cap goes to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.”
Each in-store purchased hat also comes with a free “100-seasons” pin.
In addition to the cap, fans can opt to add $1 or more to each purchase in the pro shop to go towards the foundation.
Every single fan in attendance tonight will also be able to show their support in another way.
“Everybody that is coming to the game they’ll receive a Packers vs. Cancer flag, that they’ll be able to cheer with, in the stadium,” she says.
Packers alumni Nate Wayne and Na’il Diggs are also scheduled to take part in fan activities at surprise locations around Lambeau Field.
