WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) – The mother of Slender Man defendant Morgan Geyser has started an online petition drive to get a judge to order mental health treatment now for her daughter.
Angie Geyser started the petition on Change.Org, and 1,550 people signed it as of Wednesday morning.
That was after a Waukesha County judge said no last Friday to granting a signature bond, so Morgan can go to a treatment center while her court case proceeds.
The 12-year-old Geyser and 13-year-old Anissa Weier are both charged as adults with attempted homicide, for allegedly stabbing classmate Payton Leutner 19 times last May to impress the online character Slender Man.
In the online petition, Angie Geyser wrote that her daughter has had no treatment for her schizophrenia and psychosis since being diagnosed — and has instead spent 11 months in what she called a “windowless jail.”
As the mother put it, “We are worried that if Morgan doesn’t receive treatment soon, we will lose her to her disease.”
Angie wrote that her daughter’s actions were a direct result of her delusions — and the longer she goes without treatment, “the more dangerous she becomes.”
Morgan’s lawyer, Anthony Cotton, said he did not suggest the petition — and nobody consulted him about it. He said NBC’s “Today Show” wanted Angie talk with host Matt Lauer about the petition — but she said no.
