UNDATED (WTAQ) – It was one of Northeast Wisconsin’s most notorious murder cases, and it’s now going to be a documentary available on Netflix.
The documentary entitled “Making a Murderer” focuses on the Halloween 2005 murder of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach by Steven Avery. It happened at his family’s auto salvage yard near Mishicot.
Avery was convicted of the crime, after he previously spent 18 years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit in 1985.
Avery’s nephew, then 16-year-old Brendan Dassey, was also convicted for his role in Halbach’s murder.
Netflix says the 10-part documentary by directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos will be available Dec. 18 on the online video service.
In a news release announcing the series, Netflix says:
“Making a Murderer examines allegations of police and prosecutorial misconduct, evidence tampering and witness coercion. The filmmakers look at what went wrong in the first case and question whether scientific advances and legislative reforms over the past three decades have gotten us any closer to delivering truth and justice in the system.”
