The Milwaukee Brewers started with a bang but ended with a whimper in falling to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 in the opener of a three game series at the Rogers Center Tuesday night. William Contreras hit a two run homer after Owen Miller singled in the first inning to stake the Brewers to the lead but that would be it for the offense. In his major league debut, Andruw Monasterio went two for three as the starting shortstop in place of the injured Willy Adames and those would be the only four hits on the night for the Crew against the Toronto pitching. Adrian Houser meanwhile, coming off two consecutive scoreless starts, got hit hard early, giving up four runs in the bottom of the first. Toronto would strike for two more in the second thanks to some shaky defense. Hauser couldn’t find the bag covering first on a ground ball to first baseman Mike Brossuard and Brian Anderson was charged with an error on a hard chopper to third. The Blue Jays tacked on one more run in the third before their offense quieted down. Hauser made it through 4 and a third innings, giving up 11 of Toronto’s 14 hits with six earned runs allowed. The Brewers drop to 28-26 and their lead in the division race is down to one game after Pittsburgh snapped a three game slide beating San Francisco 2-1. Julio Teheran will make his second start for the Crew Wednesday night against Alex Manoah. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30 PM with a 6:05 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
