MADISON, WI (WRN) – Spring is here, and you can help beautify the Great Lakes by joining a beach clean up.
Great Lakes Alliance spokeswoman Jennifer Caddick says signups are starting now for the Adopt A Beach spring events in April.
“You can create your own event, and you can bring just your family friends, or maybe a local business.”
Caddick says cleaning a beach cleans the lake.
“Any debris or trash or pollution on our beaches ultimately flows into our lakes, and we want to keep our lakes, which are our drinking source, and a great source of recreation, as clean as possible.”
The Alliance will take a look at what you pick up, and try to track where that debris or pollution came from.
“You return that information to us, and so we have a really good idea of what pollution sources may be and how we can prevent some of these problems in the future.”
