GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay School District wants to hear from you on a variety of issues.
The Board of Education has developed a survey, which is available until April 19.
It stems from recommendations the district received from a task force last year, which looked at a number of things, including overcrowding at some schools.
Brenda Warren, School Board President, says some ideas have already come and gone.
“The Boundary Committee really said to us, don’t do a massive boundary change to even out the enrollment at our high schools,” she explains. “Because geographically that just doesn’t make sense.”
Following that insight, the door is open to other potential outcomes.
“I don’t know if this particular plan will end up in any new buildings,” says Warren. “It may or may not.”
She says once the survey is closed that education officials will analyze the results and use it to guide them in developing a plan, which will be presented later this summer or fall to the community.
“Here’s what we took from the survey, here’s the plan we put together, and get feedback from the community about what they like or don’t like from the plan,” she explains.
Post-plan feedback from the community will most likely come in the form of listening sessions, rather than another survey.
For those working inside the district, the goal of the survey is to give parents and families a voice in their direction moving forward.
“The more voice they have in the process then the more ownership they’ll have in their schools,” explains Warren. “That’s why it’s important.”
For her, it’s a no-brainer for the community to engage and share their thoughts with the district on important issues.
“Ultimately, the schools all belong to the community, because that’s who’s paying the taxes,” says Warren.
Paper copies of the survey are available at all the public schools in the district and at the District office building.
While an online version of the survey can be found here.
