APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Downtown Appleton is littered with orange barrels. Construction season is well underway in the city. One of the big projects is the two-way street conversions.
“Appleton Street between Lawrence Street and Appleton Avenue closed this week.”
Chad Doran, Communications Coordinator says the stretch of road will be closed until Mid-June, leaving some adjustments to be made in driving and parking.
“People will have to navigate a little further around downtown to get to where they need to go.”
The construction season is being done at the same time as spring maintenance by the Public Works department.
Doran says they are continuing their ongoing efforts to fill potholes and that means workers are putting themselves in harms way if drivers are not careful.
“Anytime that they see crews out on the road doing work, we want people to slow down when they see people out there.”
Doran says drivers can also damage their vehicle if they drive into a pothole. He says it’s best to leave space in front of the vehicle enough to see and watch the road.
