GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The end of the Winter Energy Moratorium is coming up, and if you’re behind on bills, it’s time to get in touch with your utility.
At Wisconsin Public Service reminders to customers are being made. Spokesperson Matt Cullen says that means now, before April 15, is the time to take action if you owe money.
“We make phone calls and use bill messages to make contact with those customers who are at risk of being disconnected.”
The state does not allow a customer to be disconnected in the winter months, but those who owe money from the winter, need to start paying.
He says customers should call and get the process started.
“Contact us now.”
Cullen stresses that disconnection is not the first move that WPS makes.
“Employees will help them and make every effort to keep them connected by offering them minimum payment options.”
He says customers can ask about budget billing, energy assistance or setting up a payment schedule to stay connected.
This time of year, scams of people posing as service companies are not uncommon and can be costly if you don’t know what to look for.
“Threatening to disconnect service in as little as a half hour in some cases, whereas our employees do not conduct business in a threatening manner.”
He says WPS will never ask customers to pay their bill on a prepaid card either.
