BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – The third time is once again a charm for Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach who cruised to re-election on Tuesday.
Streckenbach was facing-off against challenger Mark Berndt, a former Green Bay alderman and Brown County supervisor, and finished ahead by a tally of 75-percent to 25-percent.
He thinks voters responded well to his proven track record in eight years of setting out a plan and accomplishing specific objectives
“I think people take pride in the fact that they know that their elected officials are doing what they said they were going to do,” explains Streckenbach.
Streckenbach first took office in 2011, before being re-elected in 2015 and now a third time this year.
In those eight years, he believes he’s been able to cement a strong reputation with the resident of Brown County, which showed up at the polls on Tuesday.
“We’ve had a plan, we’re addressing issues that are needed to make our community a better place,” he explains. “And I believe the residents of Brown County agreed with that.”
The final result was fairly lopsided with Streckenbach more than tripling the vote total of his opponent, but nonetheless, he was taking nothing for granted on election night before the final counts were determined.
“From the standpoint of making the decision to bring forth the debt reduction infrastructure plan, I was a little nervous about how would Brown County truly react to it,” he explains.
Clearly, the people reacted in a very positive way and now he’ll have another four years guaranteed in office.
But even with that assurance, Streckenbach is forcing himself to stay in the moment and not look too far ahead.
“Literally in about thirty days the Expo Hall and the [Brown County Veterans Memorial] Arena is going to be coming down,” he says. “We’ll be starting construction on the new Expo Hall.”
And even though he’s gone through the process three times and emerged victorious three times as well, he says the feeling of coming out on top for an election race never gets old.
“At the end of the day when we saw the results, it just really makes you feel good,” he explains.
