(WIAC) – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won its third straight NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship following three days of competition at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on May 23.
The Eagles have won 18 national titles in program history. It is the 21st NCAA Division III men’s outdoor track & field championship won by a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team. Since the 1982-83 academic year, WIAC institutions have combined to win 138 NCAA Division III team championships.
UW-La Crosse won this year’s title with 106 points, while Rowan University (N.J.) took second with 85 points, UW-Oshkosh third with 55, State University of New York Geneseo fourth with 39 and UW-Eau Claire fifth with 34.
UW-River Falls was tied for 24th with eight points, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater tied for 46th with four and UW-Platteville tied for 68th with one. A total of 75 teams recorded at least one point at the national meet.
UW-La Crosse’s Luke Schroeder claimed the 110-meter hurdles crown with a meet record time of 13.42 seconds.
UW-Oshkosh claimed two individual championships and one relay first-place finish during the national meet. Joshua Rivers won his third consecutive long jump title with a leap of 25-9 1/2 (7.86m). He is just the second individual in NCAA Division III archives to claim three straight championships in the event, joining Shawn Watson of Mount Union University (Ohio) (1996-99).
The Titans’ Gavin Fritsch earned the discus title with a toss of 181-0 (55.17m), while the 4×100-meter relay team of Davian Willems, Dylan Doss, Londyn Little and Nolan Milas produced a meet record first-place time of 39.25 seconds.
UW-Eau Claire won a pair of national titles during the championship. Blake Postler was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.88 seconds. He is just the second individual in NCAA Division III history to clock a 400-meter hurdle time under 50 seconds. Gage Stankiewicz claimed the shot put with a heave of 61-7 (18.77m).
The following individuals from the WIAC earned All-America recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Athletes that finished in the top-8 of their respective individual events and as part of a relay team earned First Team All-America honors. Those who finished ninth through 16th individually and ninth through 12th as part of a relay team were named All-America Second Team.
