GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some staple buildings in our area will likely be taking on new looks early next year in preparation for the NFL Draft.
Massive banners and graphics will be put up to generate excitement for the event. While no decisions have been made yet on where they will be located, the ideas are starting to flow.
When downtown Detroit hosted the NFL Draft in April, it was difficult to look in any direction without seeing a building with a temporary NFL touch to it.
You can see how that might look in our area with renderings that show the Titletown Tech building and a barn both wrapped in blue and stamped with NFL Draft marketing. The renderings are only to show what is possible.
“These are just some illustrations of what we anticipate, whether it’s on that building exactly or on barns or those types of things,” said Aaron Popkey, Packers director of public affairs. “I think we anticipate having some of those types of marketing pieces. Where they will be installed is to be determined yet.”
“The NFL is really encouraging us to lean into the Wisconsin culture and part of that is agriculture so we may see some graphics on some barns, especially on those veins up to Green Bay,” said Nick Meisner of Discover Green Bay.
Meisner says any marketing inside the NFL Draft footprint is up to the league and its sponsors.
“The other things, the billboards, the barns, some of those things to generate excitement, that’s being worked on by the local organizing committee and is supported by Travel Wisconsin to help generate some of that excitement,” said Meisner.
It’s a no stone unturned approach. The hope is people will see and feel the excitement from the heart of Green Bay to all Wisconsin roads that lead here.
“There’s a lot of options right now and I think we’re just kind of balancing what the cost is versus how we can make it happen,” said Meisner.
“I think as we turn to the new year, the focus of the NFL and it’s fans overall turns to the draft, that stuff will become more prevalent,” said Popkey.
