APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gregory Juedes is expected to make an initial court appearance Thursday for allegedly killing his father at an Appleton home.
Daniel Juedes Sr., 74, was killed in his South Sanders Street home on Nov. 24. Shortly after the shooting, Gregory Juedes, 45, was arrested in Kaukauna. Police have requested charges of first-degree intentional homicide. Charges have not been filed.
Typically, criminal defendants must make initial court appearances within days of their arrest. However, there is a mechanism to allow a judge to sign what’s known as a probable cause statement to continue to allow them to be held in jail pending a court appearance. That’s what happened in this case.
In this case, Juedes did not appear in court in the days after his arrest, leading up to Thanksgiving. At one point, authorities said an initial appearance was likely on Dec. 2. That did not happen, however.
Meanwhile, Juedes did not appear on the jail roster for more than a week. However, authorities have declined to comment on his specific status or location. His name re-appeared on the roster late Wednesday morning.
The sheriff’s department referred questions to the county’s corporation counsel office. Among its duties, according to its website, is handling mental commitments. However, it could not release any information, or confirm it is involved in the Juedes case.
