ASHWAUBENON – The Green Bay Rockers won their third straight game, taking down the Rockford Rivets 9-1 Monday night at Capital Credit Union Park, earning their third straight win at home and a sweep of the Rivets.
The Rockers now improve to 4-2 on the season in second-half play, and now have won three straight games heading into a two-game series with the Wausau Woodchucks.
After a 55-minute rain delay, Bryce Crabb wasted no time on the mound, retiring the Rivets to start the game, including striking out the side to end the top of the first.
Following a scoreless inning on both sides in the second inning, Crabb pitched his third scoreless inning in the top of the third, keeping Rockford off the board heading into the fourth inning of play.
The first offense of the night didn’t come until the bottom of the fifth, when the Rockers erupted for six runs on three hits, with an RBI walk from Justin Simpson kicking off the scoring for Green Bay.
An RBI single from Tristin Garcia led the way for Green Bay, as three runs came across on the single as well as an error from that hit. Jake Berg capped the inning off with an RBI single himself, giving the Rockers the 6-0 lead through five innings.
Crabb finished his outing with a 1-2-3 sixth inning, keeping his team out in front 6-0 through the opening six innings at Capital Credit Union Park.
Ryan Culley came on in relief in the seventh and eighth innings while only giving up one earned run and keeping the Rockers out in front 6-1 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Green Bay added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, two of them coming off a two-run home run by Griffin Selby, as the Rockers led 9-1 going into the ninth.
Giovanni Canales pitched a scoreless ninth inning, as the Rockers hung on for the win, winning 9-1 over Rockford at home Monday night.
The Rockers will conclude their five-game homestand Tuesday night against the Wausau Woodchucks, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
