OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – The City of Oshkosh is being recognized for their excellence in online outreach and engagement with the community.
The National Research Center at Polco and the International City & County Management Association (ICMA) have announced the city of Oshkosh as the Finalist for the Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Online Outreach. The Voice of the People Awards are the only national awards that honor local governments based on improving communities through excellent online resident engagement.
“They recognize local governments for their efforts and online outreach and Oshkosh was a recipient of the award this year,” said City of Oshkosh Communications Coordinator, Andy Radig. “Oshkosh demonstrated our commitment to best practices and engaging the community. We are very happy to receive that recognition.”
The announcement reported the city’s application demonstrated a commitment to best practices in engaging the community online. But Radig says they’re just getting started.
“Outreach to our residents for online surveys and different ways to communicate with the public and get feedback local topics and issues,” Radig said. “Oshkosh was among communities that had higher interaction with the residents through the platform, and also looking at other forms of outreach through social media and different things. Oshkosh was able to interact at a higher rate than other communities…[and we] certainly realize that we can utilize any means that we have to try to interact with the community and look for new methods of outreach.”
In the last year, Oshkosh has utilized the Polco platform for a wide variety of surveys, including the annual Citizen Survey, the Oshkosh Police Department’s Community Survey, a survey on the use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, and a survey about urban duck keeping.
