CRANDON, WI (WTAQ) – A Crandon teacher has been charged following an internet sex sting.
27-year-old Alexander Valentine, a band teacher in the Crandon School District, has been charged with attempted sexual assault of a child and child enticement.
He sent explicit text messages to who he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, but was actually a police officer.
He was arrested after showing up to a meet-up the officer arranged between Valentine and the “girl.”
Valentine appeared Tuesday in Oneida County court, where a $10,000 cash bond was set.
According to court records, he returns to court Monday for the balance of his initial appearance.
Patrick Saunders, Crandon Schools interim district administrator, says in a statement that Valentine has been placed on administrative leave:
“We are in full cooperation with both Oneida and Forest County Law Enforcement Agencies throughout this ongoing investigation. At this time, law enforcement has no evidence to suggest that Mr. Valentine had any inappropriate communications or behaviors with Crandon students.”
“Nonetheless, all Crandon employees shall be vigilant in observing and listening to students should they seek an adult to talk to about this issue.”
