GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After 16 years as Green Bay’s mayor, Jim Schmitt is saying goodbye.
“I feel good that I’m going to be sharing these gifts with other people who’ve shared their lives with me so I’m hoping people come.”
He plans to have a celebration of service today. Schmitt has invited the public to join him on the second floor of city hall from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There, he’ll give away some of the items he collected over the years.
“While I’d like to take it all home, that’s just not practical. So, we displayed it on these five tables and we’re hoping people stop by and, maybe, take an interest in a book we received from Joe Riley. He was a great mayor, a great author. A variety of hats from all over the world that people may connect to.”
Last Friday, Schmitt held a private going away party at Hotel Northland.
The Spring Election is Tuesday. Green Bay voters will decide who will be the city’s next mayor.
The two candidates vying for the position are former Wisconsin State Assembly Eric Genrich and Brown County Supervisor Pat Buckley.
