APPLETON, WI (WTAQ- WLUK) – Financial Literacy was the goal of Sunday’s free event at the Building for Kids Children’s Museum, in Appleton, on Sunday.
Katy Compton, with the Building For Kids Children’s Museum, tells FOX 11 the idea was to teach families how to save and spend wisely and have fun doing it.
“They can relate it right away to their parents, they see their parents buying groceries, they see their parents paying bills, so they’re understanding, they’re getting the play money in the beginning, but they’re going through all these stations and seeing how you make more money, how you spend money.”.
Kids got a check they could cash for museum bucks. There were different stations for kids to learn about spending, saving and sharing.
Kids could play games for the cost of their water bill which teaches about budging skills and investment games to learn about saving, according to the museum.
Officials estimate that about 1,000 people showed up.
