GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Liquidation sales are underway at Shopko, but the BBB says there are things that shoppers should keep in mind to avoid disappointment.
While everything must go, liquidation sales are put together by a third party and prices are not always at the lowest in the beginning.
“Their goal is to liquidate the inventory, but also get as much money for it as possible.”
Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau says it is always a gamble for shoppers.
“You could wait until the price drops, but then know what you are shopping for may not necessarily be there.”
She says eventually the prices will drop lower, but price matching and shopping around is always a good idea.
Bach says the big L word gets people to make rushed decisions, but buyers should still beware.
“You put those banners outside the store and people just assume that it is going to be a rock bottom price and that is not necessarily the case,” Bach said. Also, it is important to realize that returns will probably not be an option.
“Just know, going into a liquidation sale that all sales are final.”
Bach says it is also a good idea to shop with a credit card so you can dispute charges of defective products later and if you have a gift card, now is the time to use it.
