ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay bars were blue and yellow Thursday as fans excitement picked up where it left off last year.
With a few swings of the bats, strong pitching and a game-winning catch, the Brewers opened up the season with a win over the Cardinals.
Just like that the Brewers are 1-0.
John of Stoughton, he was in Green Bay to celebrate Spring Break and opening day, was extra special for him.
“It’s a good way to start a birthday.”
John enjoyed his birthday game at Stadium View in Ashwaubenon, but little did he know sitting at the table next to him, Renee of De Pere was also celebrating her birthday.
“He was sitting right next to me, and we had a great time together here.”
She said she visits John’s hometown Stoughton quite a bit.
Both John and Renee share more than their birthday and Stoughton connection.
“World series, we are going all the way,” John said. “We have some key players, it is going to be fun to watch.”
“Last year, they were the NL Champions, and this year we are hoping for that and more, all the way, all the way.”
Kayla was on Spring Break from Milwaukee and vacationing in Green Bay.
“I was kind of sad to miss the first game, but that is okay.”
She said in Milwaukee is where you will find most of the excitement. She was quick to praise her favorite player.
“Christian Yelich did very well, he got a three-run homer.
Roars were heard after each Brewer home run, strikeout, and especially after the game-winning catch by Lorenzo Cain.
“Let’s give it up for Cain who grabbed that ball at the end, fabulous.”
Rick of Green Bay was enjoying the game with his wife. He has been a Brewer fan for the last 10 years and said his wife helped him become a Brewer fan.
“The team all has energy,” his wife Shawn said.
Rick said he was cheering for everything and already has plans to go to a couple of games this year.
“There is a little more hype this year and a little more expectation doing great.
Shawn said she wishes there was even more Brewer excitement in Green Bay.
While opening day is always exciting, this Brewer excitement might just last for 162 days or more.
