WEYAUWEGA, WI (WTAQ) – A Weyauwega man has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography.
And investigators say the tip initially came from New Zealand.
In June of 2017, a New Zealand watchdog group said it spotted a child porn video online, and contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
From there, Milwaukee authorities were alerted, followed by Waupaca County, and finally the Weyauwega Police Department.
On Wednesday, 39-year old Daniel Vaughn was arrested, after Sgt. Brandon Leschke says the IP address for the video that was uploaded matched Vaughn’s home address in Weyauwega.
“Because this is one of the few felonies that carry a mandatory prison sentence upon conviction, we intercepted him as he was leaving his place of employment, just as a safety concern for him and for the officers involved.”
As detectives were collecting electronic devices from the home for possible evidence, they say they also found drug material.
Vaughn has not been formally charged. He is expected to make his first court appearance today (Friday), where he could face a number of charges.
