MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The Wisconsin Senate expects to act on a bill Tuesday that would let voters register online.
Voters would have to re-register when they move or change their last names.
The bipartisan bill would also add federal veterans’ IDs to the list of those acceptable for voting. And the deadline for local clerks to receive absentee ballots would be moved up from the Friday after Election Day to 8 p.m. on Election Nights, the same time the polls close.
The government watchdog group Common Cause says it opposes the measure, citing a last minute GOP amendment to stop allowing the use of special registration deputies that encourage voter registrations at places like nursing homes, libraries, community centers, and college campuses.
