Several area girls soccer teams are just one step away from the W.I.A.A. State tournament.
In Sectional semifinal action Thursday night, Eau Claire Memorial advanced to take on last year’s Division 1 runner-up Bay Port, who defeated Appleton West 4-0 on Wednesday night. The Pirates played the game a night early because Appleton’s West commencement was Thursday night. Bay Port will meet the Old Abes at 3:00 PM Saturday at Wausau West High School. Also in Division1, Sheboygan North traveled to Kimiberly and defeated the Papermakers 2-1 in a shootout. The game and overtime ended in a 1-1 draw and the Golden Raiders advanced by winning 5-4 on penalty kicks. North, seeking it’s first ever trip to state, will meet Arrowhead Saturday at 6:00 PM in Germantown.
In Division 2, the Pulaski Red Raiders need one more win to reach state for the third consecutive season. Pulaski defeated Marshfield 2-1 and will meet River Falls in Marshfield Saturday at 5:00 PM. Brookfield Central eliminated West De Pere 3-0.
In Division 3, Green Bay Notre Dame beat Wrightstown 6-2 behind four goals from Grace Shaw who now has 110 in her career. The Tritons handed the Tigers only their second loss of the season. Notre Dame will face Plymouth, a 1-0 winner over Winneconne on Sydney Robinson’s goal, Saturday afternoon in Winneconne at 4:00 PM. In another bracket, Rhinelander ended New London’s season 10-0.
Division 4 semifinals had Oostburg beat Kohler 7-0 to remain unbeaten (19-0-1) thanks to a four goal game from Olivia Meerdink. Oostburg will meet Cedar Grove-Belgium in the final. the Rockets beat Winnebago Lutheran 4-1. LaCrosse Aquinas ended St. Mary Catholic’ season with a 3-1 victory.
