MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Faculty at the University of Wisconsin could be receiving raises. The university announced that UW-Madison is moving to give staff a 4-percent bump in pay in the next year.
Plans call for the first 2-percent increase to take effect in July and the second 2-percent in January 2019.
The plan also calls for slightly larger pay raises for some of the lowest-paid workers on campus who earn less than $15-an-hour.
It would be the first time since 2015 that employees have gotten across-the-board raises. The plan still needs to be approved by the state’s Joint Committee on Employee Relations. The budget-writing Joint Finance Committee approved the increases last summer.
UW-Madison says their pay scale is lower that similar state-institutions of higher learning. Chancellor Rebecca Blank says the increases will improve faculty retention rates.
