For the second year in row, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has been named a starter for the NBA’s All Star game.
The Greek Freak is averaing 28.2 points per game, second best in the league. He leads the league in minutes played per game and is 10th in rebounding, 18th in blocked shots and 20th in steals per game.
Head Coach Jason Kidd calls it “a tremendous honor”, especially playing in one of the NBA’s smallest markets.
Antetokounmpo led the Bucks into the playoffs last year and has guided the team to a 23-21 record this season.
He will join the league’s top vote getters, LeBron James of Cleveland from the Eastern Conference and Steph Curry from Golden State of the West who will serve as captains for the game and select teams beginning with the starters for each conference.
Joining Giannis and James from the East are Kyrie Irving of Boston, DeMar DeRozan of Toronto and Joel Embid of Philadelphia. The other West starters are Kevin Durant of the Warriors, James Harden of Houston and a pair of New Orleans Pelicans in Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
The reserves will be announced the the coaches next week with the All-Star game set for February 18 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
