MOUNT PLEASANT, WI (WSAU) A group of residents set to lose their homes are suing over Foxconn’s plan to build a massive plant in Racine County. The lawsuit claims Mount Pleasant’s exercise of eminent domain to remove the homes is unconstitutional.
The homes are located on a plot of land where the facility will be built.
12 families who live along County Road H and County Line Road are represented by a Madison law firm. Their lawsuit argues that their land is being taken not for public improvements like new power lines and water and sewer mains, but for a private development. The homeowners claim the utility and infrastructure projects would not be happening without the Foxconn development.
The property owners would get fair market value for their land.
The village says the lawsuit is without merit, and they will continue to assemble land for the project.Foxconn is planning to spend up to $10-billion on a plant that could employ as many as 13,000 people.
Foxconn wants to acquire up to 2,900 acres of land for future expansion.
