MADISON, WI (WSAU) Madison Mayor Paul Soglin is expected to officially launch his campaign for governor of Wisconsin next week. Soglin told reporters Thursday that he has already hired key staff members.
He will be joining a crowded Democratic primary field against Governor Walker. Soglin, 72, told reporters last month that “barring unforeseen circumstances, he will enter the race.” He’s also been gathering ‘likes’ on social media, telling supporters that “I need your help” to gather a Facebook and Twitter following for his campaign.
Madison State Rep. Kelda Roys has also indicated that she’s considering entering the race for governor.
The list of announced candidates includes state Superintendent Tony Evers, state Senator Kathleen Vinehout, former state Democratic Party Chair Matt Flynn, Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik, firefighters union head Mahlon Mitchell, and state Rep. Dana Wachs.
Scott Walker tweeted a picture of Soglin standing with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, with the message “extremism, even by Madison standards.”
