DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After a record-breaking snowstorm in mid- April temperatures in Northeast Wisconsin finally started to warm up over the weekend.
The change in weather brought people like Aaron Nelson out to the Fox River in De Pere for a bike ride.
He tells FOX 11 it’s something he’d been waiting to do all spring.
“Oh it’s great, having everyone out on the trail and enjoying the water is fantastic.”
Nelson said that didn’t stop him and his wife from getting out to enjoy the snow.
“We were surprised to be snowed in, in April. We had some fun snow shoeing but we preferred today.”.
The same could also be said for those who spent their Sunday at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary in Green Bay for Earth Day.
Lori Bankson, a curator at the sanctuary, says it’s been busy.
“We kept holding out hope because this is our earth and we put up with everything they’re going to give us and we are just really happy that we have the sunshine and the melting and we could celebrate today.”
Many children and their families spent their day learning about wildlife and the importance of keeping the earth clean and healthy.
