The Milwauke Brewers dropped the first game of a seven game homestand last Monday to the Cincinnati Reds 10-4 but they would not lose again, taking the next two from Cincy and then sweeping the Miami Marlins in a four game series, closing it out 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Miller Park, running the club’s winning streak to six in a row.
Christian Yelich hit a two run homer to push the Brewers on top 2-1. They extended the lead with an unearned run in the 7th only to see Miami answer with Justin Dour’s second RBI of the game. Jesus Aguillar, who ended Saturday night’s 6-5 victory with a walk off home run in the 9th, would deliver and insurance RBI single in the 8th inning.
Junior Guerra improved to 2-0 by working five plus innings, allowing only one, unearned run but he left the Brewers in a predicament in the 6th, exiting with the bases loaded. Jeremy Jeffress got out of the jam recording three straight outs. Matt Albers worked the seventh and Josh Hader finished up with a two inning save, his third of the year.
The Brewers improved to 14-9 with the 6-1 homestand and will get a day off Monday before opening a three city, nine game road trip with the first stop in Kansas City against the Royals on Tuesday night.
