The Milwaukee Brewers stayed perfect on the road to start the season by literally walking over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium Monday night 5-4 in 10 innings.
The Brewers led 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth but St. Louis scratched across the tying run against Matt Albers, putting together three singles and a sacrifice fly from Dexter Fowler to force extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, Cardinals new reliever Greg Holland, an 8 year veteran making his St. Louis debut, was wild from the start. He walked the first two batters he faced before Eric Sogard laid down a bunt to put runners on second and third. Manny Pina was given an intentional pass to load the bases and Holland walked Orlando Arcia to force in the go ahead run.
Albers went back out for the bottom of the 10th and retired St. Louis in order to earn the win after blowing the save.
Pina had a two run single for the Crew while Sogard collected three hits including a pair of doubles.
Milwaukee is 4-0 away from Miller Park and 6-5 overall. They will send Brent Sutter to the mound against Carlos Martinez in game two of the series. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:40 PM on WTAQ.
