MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Milwaukee County’s budget will double the wheel tax from $30 to $60. A similar wheel tax increase was rejected by the county board for the current budget.
County Executive Chris Abele’s $1.16-billion budget would keep property taxes almost unchanged.Admission to the Milwaukee County Zoo would be increased next year by $1.25. It’s the first admission hike in six years.
One of the biggest proposed infrastructure improvements in the budget is at Mitchell Field. An unused terminal would be demolished, to be replaced by a new international arrivals terminal to handle growing passenger traffic. The project costs $50-million. Construction would start in the spring of 2018.
A one-percent raise for county employees is also being proposed.
