APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Driving through Appelton may take longer than usual the next couple of days.
Sergeant Dave Lund says “College Avenue between Highway 47 and the Lawrence University campus gets shut down” from mid-day Friday through late Saturday night for the city’s Octoberfest weekend.
Octoberfest runs Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, with the License to Cruise vehicle show from 6 to 9:30 pm the night prior.
“We do have a number of city parking ramps, located just off the avenue. All of those are open for both License to Cruise and Octoberfest.”
For motorists who are trying to navigate through Appleton during the closures, Lund suggests some alternate routes.
“The north-south route is to travel along Richmond Street, Memorial Drive. If they’re on the east side of the downtown, Lawe Street. To get across the city east or west, Wisconsin Avenue (north of downtown) and Calumet Street (south of downtown).”
Lund says License to Cruise is an alcohol-free event but notes that is of course not the case for Saturday’s festivities.
However, he urges folks to adhere to the festival’s alcohol policies.
“The alcohol must be purchased along the avenue from the various venders. People must have a wristband. No carry-ins, no glass containers.”
Lund says alcohol sales will cease at 5:30 pm, with wristband and ticket sales ending one-half hour prior.
The sergeant also notes that pets are not allowed at any of the festivities.
Any event updates, including weather concerns, are expected to posted to a sign board in the area of Houdini Plaza.
